Abstract- The Bonita Bay Group
The Bonita Bay Group (TBBG): A Business Model Rooted in Sustainability
is a two-part case study that follows a decision-making process which
resulted in a landmark project to reconnect historic flowways and the
first sole source contract between a developer and a regulatory agency
in southwest Florida. Severe and costly flooding was the impetus for
a regional watershed study conducted by the regulatory agency, the South
Florida Water Management District. During the study, TBBG was in the
permitting process for a development called The Brooks. TBBG's leadership
worked with the South Florida Water Management District to alleviate
the flooding caused by past development and the building of an interstate,
reconnecting historic flowways, rehydrating wetlands, and directing water
back to Estero Bay. The results for the firm can be seen indirectly in
its number one ranking in a third party study of market share. TBBG also
received many awards including one from the Urban Land Institute. The
firm is located in an environmentally unique area of the United States,
bordered by the Everglades and Big Cypress Swamp. This area is also in
the top ten growth areas for the country. The case is appropriate for
strategy, leadership and environmental management courses.
